Fancy lives with a foster mother who she calls her Aunt who brought her to Kampala to seek a better life. Fancy is mistreated and overworked by her Aunt, and often doesn’t get to eat if she doesn’t work enough. The Aunt sells vegetables to attempt to make a living for both of them. They live in a tiny house with many leaks, so when it rains they don’t sleep much. Fancy has never been to school but would really like to go.
