Emmanuella Arthur (Afuah Attah) #117

Next Step

Afua was born in the Central Region and brought to the streets by her mother.  The father had denied responsibility for the child and the mother had no way to care for her.  She slept with her mother under the storefront awnings at Okaishie market near the train station.  The area floods frequently, so they had to sleep standing up leaning against the wall in the rainy season. Her mother, who was only 20 years old, tried to make enough money for food by selling peeled papaya tied up in little plastic bags.  She hoped little Afua could come to Haven of Hope so she could have a home once again, an education and a normal life. Afua suffered from sicknesses due to living in unhealthy conditions.  Afua was placed in Haven of Hope at age 4. Her mother passed away at some point after bringing Afua to Haven of Hope. She has been cared for and thriving and going to school the past several years, because of her sponsors. Throughout her time at Haven of Hope Academy, she was fragile because of her rough start in the world, but she was hard working and eager to learn. She did well in school with encouragement from our staff. She is now at Ho College of Health, in her second year studying registered nursing. She lives with her female cousin in Accra and has two Uncles who live in the Accra region, but has no other family that she’s aware of.

She currently has two sponsors, but needs one or two more to have her education and living needs fully covered for the next couple years, until she can get employed and become independent. Could you prayerfully consider being that next supporter for her?
