David was born with albinism, a condition where one has no pigmentation to protect his skin and eyes from the sun. This condition alone caused his life to start out on a more difficult path than other children. Sadly, on top of that his father died a gruesome death from an accident in a sugar factory back when David was in 6th grade. So David’s mother has been on her own raising him and her other children. His mother had to sell a big chunk of their land (which they were using to grow a garden) just to survive. David’s mother worked so hard roasting and selling maize on the side of the road, to get the money for him to go to school. But unfortunately, it was never enough.
Then David’s mother started having some problems with intense pain in her leg that prevented her from walking much. Around that time David attended the albinism day and medical clinic that ECM held at Jinja a few years ago. Our staff saw that David clearly needed help to finish school, so he enrolled in the program and we found a sponsor for him. He has finished high school and now will be entering our Next Step program. He will be training in music production, which he is very passionate about and talented in, so that he can become self-employed and help his family! He has one sponsor, but needs about three more sponsors to fully cover his educational and housing needs while he’s at school in Kampala. David has proven to be a worthy, hard working young man who loves Jesus and is active in church and in ECM activities. Would you prayerfully consider stepping in as another sponsor for him to help him reach his goals?
Fina’s mother was impregnated from rape as a teenager while she was working as a maid in a large house. Sadly, Fina’s mother was kicked out and forced to leave the child with the family there. So Fina has grown up there and thinks that this is actually her family. The mother of the home beats Fina and makes her work like a slave. Her sleeping condition is pretty bad; she sleeps on a pile of rags. There is an uncle in the home who shows kindness to Fina and goes with her to church, and tries to help her in whatever way he can. Fina has not been to school in quite a while. She was in P3 before she had to drop out of school. She really likes school and wants to go back if she can get a sponsor. ECM’s desire is to relocate Fina to a physically and emotionally safer environment, as they have located one of Fina’s relatives. But this is a delicate situation, so pray that God would intervene in the right timing to move Fina out of that situation without danger to her. Would you prayerfully consider supporting Fina?
