Douglas Antwi #199

Before coming to Haven of Hope, Douglas was living with his father, Francis Kwabena Antwi.  His mother died when he was young. Douglas’ father asked for help because he couldn’t find employment. So Douglas came to live at Haven of Hope where he has been thriving and getting the care and supervision he needs. His father just recently passed away in May of 2022.

Douglas is a hard worker and diligent in his studies. He participates well in class and always submits his homework on time. Douglas loves to play foot ball.  Douglas is now in his third year studying psychology at the University of Ghana! He would like to be employed someday with Ghana immigration or customs, but if that doesn’t work out he aspires to be a psychologist.  Douglas currently only has one sponsor but needs two or three more in order to be fully covered with his tuition needs. Could you be an additional person to provide the support and encouragement he needs?

Emmanuella Arthur (Afuah Attah) #117

Afua was born in the Central Region and brought to the streets by her mother.  The father had denied responsibility for the child and the mother had no way to care for her.  She slept with her mother under the storefront awnings at Okaishie market near the train station.  The area floods frequently, so they had to sleep standing up leaning against the wall in the rainy season. Her mother, who was only 20 years old, tried to make enough money for food by selling peeled papaya tied up in little plastic bags.  She hoped little Afua could come to Haven of Hope so she could have a home once again, an education and a normal life. Afua suffered from sicknesses due to living in unhealthy conditions.  Afua was placed in Haven of Hope at age 4. Her mother passed away at some point after bringing Afua to Haven of Hope. She has been cared for and thriving and going to school the past several years, because of her sponsors. Throughout her time at Haven of Hope Academy, she was fragile because of her rough start in the world, but she was hard working and eager to learn. She did well in school with encouragement from our staff. She is now at Ho College of Health, in her second year studying registered nursing. She lives with her female cousin in Accra and has two Uncles who live in the Accra region, but has no other family that she’s aware of.

She currently has two sponsors, but needs one or two more to have her education and living needs fully covered for the next couple years, until she can get employed and become independent. Could you prayerfully consider being that next supporter for her?

Janet Kwamang #194

Janet comes from a broken family who used to live in a town called Senya Breku. Her father would often beat her mother until they finally divorced. Shortly after, Janet’s mother brought her children to Accra to seek employment and a better life. Sadly, they ended up on the streets where Janet helped her mother by selling bread at the railway station. Janet started attending a street fellowship organized by ECM and gave her life to Christ when she was about 7 years old.

Then she was enrolled in the child sponsorship program and came to live at Haven of Hope where she was cared for and began to thrive. Because Janet was totally illiterate and started school late, she is much older than her peers. However, she is a very diligent young woman with a wonderful attitude and performed well in high school. She is now in her second of three years studying at Accra School of Hygiene for her degree in Environmental Health.  She currently has one sponsor, but needs at least one or two more to help her finish her last year strong. Could you prayerfully consider coming alongside and supporting her financially and spiritually?

David Muwanguzi #778

David was born with albinism, a condition where one has no pigmentation to protect his skin and eyes from the sun. This condition alone caused his life to start out on a more difficult path than other children. Sadly, on top of that his father died a gruesome death from an accident in a sugar factory back when David was in 6th grade. So David’s mother has been on her own raising him and her other children. His mother had to sell a big chunk of their land (which they were using to grow a garden) just to survive. David’s mother worked so hard roasting and selling maize on the side of the road, to get the money for him to go to school. But unfortunately, it was never enough.

Then David’s mother started having some problems with intense pain in her leg that prevented her from walking much. Around that time David attended the albinism day and medical clinic that ECM held at Jinja a few years ago. Our staff saw that David clearly needed help to finish school, so he enrolled in the program and we found a sponsor for him. He has finished high school and now will be entering our Next Step program. He will be training in music production, which he is very passionate about and talented in, so that he can become self-employed and help his family! He has one sponsor, but needs about three more sponsors to fully cover his educational and housing needs while he’s at school in Kampala. David has proven to be a worthy, hard working young man who loves Jesus and is active in church and in ECM activities. Would you prayerfully consider stepping in as another sponsor for him to help him reach his goals?

Dominic Sunday Kimera #383

Dominic’s father abandoned him as soon as he was born, seeing that he was born with albinism, which sadly is considered a curse in Uganda. When Dominic was still very young, his mother and grandmother died within the same week. His Aunt came to get him and became his guardian. She unknowingly rescued him from another relative who was going to sacrifice Dominic in a witchcraft ritual. Thank God that did not happen to Dominic! Shortly after, his aunt enrolled him in ECM’s sponsorship program and he successfully completed high school! He also regularly attends church and invited Jesus to be His Lord and Savior! Now he is in our Next Step program and enrolled at YMCA college to study for his two year certificate course in public administration and management! He is such a bright, Jesus loving young man! Right now he doesn’t have anyone sponsoring him since his former sponsor could not continue. He needs $750 for tuition per year, not including his monthly upkeep which covers his basic needs while he’s living in the dorms. Monthly upkeep is $70 total. Could you prayerfully consider being one of the people to help support him in this last leg of his sponsorship journey till he becomes independent?

Mustafa Donkor #840

Mustafa lives with his mother in a village called Kotoku. Mustafa’s father is alive but does not live with the family or provide any support. Mustafa’s mother has no consistent job and is not able to provide for Mustafa by herself. His mother migrated with him several years ago to Accra to beg on the streets, so that her son could survive. They had been sleeping on the street, with no protection from the elements, until Mustafa came to live at Haven of Hope and received sponsors to support him.

Sadly, even though Mustafa was put in school at Haven of Hope Academy, he has been very behind in school because of the trauma he experienced on the streets. His memory is very weak and he cannot read or write much, even though he’s almost 16 years old. For that reason, under the guidance of our staff, Mustafa decided to undergo an apprenticeship in aluminum fabrication and glazing so that he has a job he can do with his hands, and will be able to support himself. The training is 3 years long and he has just recently begun. Mustafa has 3 sponsors currently, but needs one more so that he can be fully supported and successfully transition to independence in a few years. Could you be that person to help him finish strong?

Juliet Namugerwa #337 (One time sponsor needed)

Juliet grew up with her Aunt in the slums of Kamwokya. Her father died when she was still a young girl and her mother abandoned her when she was 12 years old. Juliet was left in the hands of her Aunt who has been her guardian up to now. Unfortunately, because her Aunt also has four children of her own, it has been extremely hard for her to provide for everyone. The Aunt was running a small business of selling roasted plantains, which barely brought in enough for them to live on. Juliet could attend school regularly due to the lack of finances to pay for school fees.

However, in 2010 ECM came to her rescue and enrolled Juliet in to the education sponsorship program and continued supporting her until she was able to complete her last year of high school. She then enrolled for a course to acquire her certificate in catering and hotel management, which she completed in 2019! She is now part of the Next Step program and applied for a business grant but needs some extra help to be able to start up her business, so that she can transition fully into independence and be able to support herself!  She needs a total of $1300 to start her business. Could you be the one to give her hope and come alongside her in this final leg of her journey with ECM?

Isaac Lateiku Essel #139

Isaac Lateiku came with his mother and his two siblings to the Accra railways (the streets of Accra) because it became impossible for them to survive on their own in their hometown in the Centra Region of Ghana. Sadly Isaac’s father denied his responsibility to care for his family, and abandoned them. Life was not any easier for the family in Accra. Isaac would run errands for people on the street so that they would give him scraps of food, since his mother could not provide for him.
Due to the financial difficulties of his mother, Isaac did not have any formal education until he met ECM Street Ministry workers. The ECM staff were sharing food and preaching the word of God to children one Sunday afternoon. Isaac was interviewed and the mother was called and asked if ECM could take Isaac and give him a formal education, which would give him hope for a better future. The mother agreed and Isaac was brought to the Home in 2002 through the Department of Social Welfare where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Isaac was four years old when he came to Haven of Hope.
Isaac was placed in Haven of Hope Academy and completed Haven of Hope elementary school and then attended a nearby high school. He graduated high school last year, and is currently at Accra Technical University in his first year studying Electrical Engineering. He would like to work as an electrician someday. He is still facing financial challenges and struggles to pay his university fees along with monthly upkeep, school supplies, handouts, and accommodation (renting a dorm). He currently has two sponsors but needs two more in order to fully cover his tuition and education needs until he finishes. Could you prayerfully consider supporting him for the next couple years?
